Hot Topic:     Projector Filters

Most digital projectors have a filter which needs cleaning on a regular basis. If the filter becomes blocked, the lamp may overheat and fail early. Lamp manufacturers can test for this kind of failure and any warranty becomes invalid. Always ensure that there is good airflow around the projector and try to avoid using your projector in dusty conditions.

Not cleaning the filter can also lead to the filter itself failing and excess dust travelling through the filter. The dust is then sucked down the cooling path and lands on the image module and builds up to eventually appear as a pink haze on the screen. Having the LCD's cleaned once this has happened is an expensive process, is sometimes not economic and has to be done by a technician in a workshop as the projector has to stripped down.

Practical prevention

Consult the projector manual as to the frequency of cleaning recommended and for details on how to clean or change the filter.

Some projectors have a menu setting which can be set to display an on-screen indicator when the filter is due to be cleaned.

Please note that this is not a job for your office cleaner

If you do not have the time or the resources available to clean or change the filter yourself or the projector is installed at height, we will be pleased to quote you to carry out the work if you are situated in Eastern England.
